Treatment 1 - chatterbox 17/09/12



 

As me and karis developed our story ideas, we then began to produce our first treatment. This is considered to be a practical, since we will gather feedbacks and improvement that is need to be completed.

 Premise-

A young girl who is lonely and allows a chatterbox to make decisions for her

Treatment

Emma is a girl who at the age of 13 has already become jaded with her mundane everyday life. One word comes to her mind if she ever needs to describe herself; average. She has always wished she could be one of those girls she sees walking through the hallways at school with groups of friends around them, all laughing at a joke she isn't a part of. Ever since she can remember she has always felt like a supporting character in her own life, never quite able to step out from the background into the spotlight. She doesn't even blame her classmates for leaving her out because she knows the only thing holding her back is herself. She just can't seem to get over feeling shy all the time. She would even settle for one friend, but instead only has her pet hamster, Henry, for company. One Friday night which, as usual, she spends talking to Henry and watching any documentary she can find, Henry suddenly leads her to a genius idea. As a pet, Henry never needs to decide anything for himself. Just as Henry relies solely on Emma to provide food, shelter and activities – why couldn't she to put her fate somewhere other than her own hands too? She has always had a keen analytical mind, so it makes sense for her to rely on something solid and concrete. Like probability! That way she could give herself a list of reactions to possible situations and let chance decide what she did next. After all, why would she need to be shy when she isn’t the one making the decisions in the first place? So it was decided, and armed with her list and a coordinated chatterbox, she faces everyday problems with a new solution. She feels confident and free. But she can't quite shake the feeling that by not having any input into her actions, she is doing herself more harm than good

 

 

Feedback


After producing our first treatment, felt the experience of how treatment does take a long process to reach the final decisions, I understand how a treatment is basically a concept of how accurate it must be and also very simplistic to show a creative presentation to an audience. Me and my partner karis then shared our treatment within our colleagues to receive full feedback and review.

 

Our colleague mentioned that our creativity was a great idea to include a prop such as the chatterbox. However it seemed that it could consider a very difficult process of actually shooting their scenes in which seemed very long and complicated. They liked the concept where the girl leads her life by using a chatterbox and allowing it to provide social decisions, which is something that has never been used and does represent a new interesting idea.


The main general idea about the teenage girl having mental problems or being lonely is presumed to be a bit clichéd. Therefore I also agree with the terms and will be taking this feedback as a record to analyse, where we can improve our practical treatment into its higher standards.Im going to think and develop more ideas outside the box and understand the concept of how a film really interests the audience with creativity used. This will lead to a lot of research through short films and also need to focus on how we can execute the timing of the treatment, considering that it mustn’t be too long or too short to actually shoot the treatment.

 Even though this is considered to be our first practical treatment, it was a very good atte3mot and also and easier step towards building our experience of producing an effective treatment. I understand how it can lead to many problems, in which needs to be solved and improved to make it seem more interesting to engage our audience. Therefore I believe that me and my partner needs to still cooperate efficiently in order accomplish our goals for our A2 project.
