Project log

September 2012

In this month, I was firstly introduced to the A2 media project. I have realised that in the future time being I had to produce a short film alongside with its film poster and a review page. I began my research by first receiving an understanding of how to structure a short film before its schedules. For example I have watched several short films on YouTube and from previous A2 students. I was then paired up with Karis and began to practise of producing short treatments that were given to us as practise for example the lion and the slave, we had to understand the plot of the story and know how to develop big twists that may occur. After understanding definitions, watching several clips and preparing for the pre-production me and karis then continued of thinking of a sew story idea for a film.

October 2012

In this month, me and my partner karis decided that we wanted to produce a short film that were related to school massacre. Therefore me and karis have managed to produce almost 4 treatments because many of them were considered to be too confusing and too well-known in which many people will recognise the big twist so therefore karis managed to come up with a treatment that were chosen called the perfect prefect. However by managing to create a treatment we then realise we had to perform online research as well as interviewing about teenagers, school massacre and also drinking. After managing this particular research we then continued to our pre-production of our film. Our first was to produce a story board in which it had to be planned in a step by step process first to reduce any complexity. Afterwards we then managed to produce the actual story board, asking permission for the location, hiring actors and getting the props. We have managed to prepare the preproduction .Therefore the shooting schedule for the short film Tuesday 16th of October and Wednesday 17th of October. I was very worried about the weather condition which may of affected the shooting schedule that was set in the AstroTurf however it was a success that we have managed to shoot our film. In this month, we then had to edit by using Adobe premiere Cs5 and upload it onto to YouTube. After completing the short film it was compulsory for us to develop a film poster as well as a film review magazine. Therefore we had to research several independent film posters as well as their film review pages to receive an understanding of how to apply a similar typography.

November 2012

In this month, we then continued of producing a lot of drafts of my film poster and managed to develop a final draft. Afterwards I then continued of producing my film review magazine. The ancillary task was done on Photoshop CS4 ,this took a long time to develop because of my experience however I have managed to become familiarise with the programme and completed the ancillary task.

December 2012

In this month, it was vital for me to receive feedback from audiences to review my final product as well as my ancillary task. After accomplishing that method then prepared for finalising the project with 4 evaluations. These evaluations referred to the research, planning and production that I have accomplished for this project. Therefore I have managed to complete the evaluations and fully decorated my blog in a professional and creative format. Overall I was very pleased with this project in which I have managed to produce a fabulous short film as well as producing a creative film poster and a believable review page of my film. Since my partner karis decided the treatment of or film I believe it was a great idea. This is because nowadays many teenagers are behaving irresponsible and very negative in today’s society so therefore by presenting them a situation that can happen with the type of activities they perform can at least change them for the better. As I am a Muslim I believe that drinking  is totally forbidden and is the reason why teenagers are being negative in today’s society, so therefore by presenting a video that indicates a situation that will happen while drinking will at least provide an understanding to reduce a drinking and too think before they perform an activity that will lead to a serious scenario case.Iam very proud that iam a Muslim in which iv manage to present my research of how drinking can cause problems as well as presenting a scenario case which could happen to all teenagers when they become addicted to drinking and most importantly I’m very satisfied of how I have managed to create a fantastic end result of my media project.

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

By managing to produce my short film, film poster and film review page, it was compulsory for me to receive audience feedback. By asking specific questions which allowed me to adjust any problems and to acknowledge any improvements that needed to be developed.

Short film

After producing my short film, I have managed to asked specific questions to my colleague. My first important question I had received was the rating that was given by the collegues. As my film have been viewed by 5 of my colleague I the wanted to know how effective it is to be  published as short film so therefore my concerns was the type of rating they will give after viewing the short film which will justify how they thought about the film whether if its amazing to watch or very poor to watch.

The graph presents the rating that was given by 5 of the colleague. The highest is considered to be 10 where the lowest is given as 1.By viewing the result from the quantitative data received,7 and 8 out of 10 were given the most out of the 5 colleague. This is considered to be a very good score however my aim was to achieve a 9 or possibly a 10.However I needed to know what improvements can be developed in order to receive that scored ,so therefore I have managed to ask specific questions that referred to the cinematography, camera shots and also asking if they understood the story plot of the short film. The feedback that I had received from these questions became a suitable resource.

My first feedback that I had received from my colleague was referred to the camera shot/angle of the film. The reason why have asked a question referred to this, is because from every short film must always conduct a fabulous presentation of camera shots/angles that are very professionally taken. I was concerned if I have managed to receive that skill.I was satisfied as my colleague replied   “Camera shots are very smoothed and delicate, whoever was holding the camera they should receive a massive credit. I really liked the way the camera shots of one of the girls showing their hands that were covered with blood which actually freaked me out, overall the other camera shots was executed very accurately.” As this feedback made me very certain of receiving the skills of taking professional camera shots. I have learnt that   by managing to take creative and accurate shots will always present a more professional view of the films cinematography, with a lack of camera shots/angle being taken considering if they are too basic and too repetitive can lead to the audience of being bored or not consider to be an attractive view for them to watch the film.

According to the cinematography, this was another important question that I had to ask. This is because the cinematography of every film must always be very creative with the terms of features, special effects and most importantly the acting. For receiving feedback on the cinematography of the film one had stated that “The editing of the CCTV at the opening sequence seemed very creative and most importantly the cinematography of the scene where the two girls found out they were shot was superb. I really liked the way special effects were added with the gun shot which was matched perfectly and also the contrast of the classroom scene was so fantastic the way it showed more as a spooky atmosphere.”  I believe that by receiving this feedback made me learnt of how important it is to show a film is represented a specific genre for example for a horror film, the cinematography must always be presented with something that is dark and mysterious to at least show how this is a horror movie and its also an important strategy to make a cinematography more effective for an audience to be amazed of watching the short film.I have also realised that the cinematography of the opening sequence must very effective and creative, this is because an opening sequence of a film is an element which will encourage the audience to watch the whole short film. If the opening sequence is considered to be very poorly edited and something this either boring or very basic, this will lead to a disadvantage where it will less likely for an audience to carry on watching the short film. Most importantly as big twists considered to be the main element from every short film, I have learnt how compulsory it is to present a creative and fantastic view of how the big twist occur, without accomplishing that method a short film would not considered to be successful and would less likely to receive any amazement from any audiences.

Finally I had to be concerned if the audience understood the story plot of the film. This is because if a story plot of a short film is not understood by every audience, then this would not be very interesting to be watched and many audiences will not bother of watching something that they don’t understand. Therefore a colleague “The story plot was made clear that there was a perfect prefect who killed disobedient students this is a very captivating story line and I think I would enjoy watching something like that. For improvements id say maybe have more interaction with the other kids in the circle at the beginning of the video. Out of 10 i give it an 8 as the actors acted very well and the whole idea was clear the only thing that may be lacking is overall content and an explanation as to why the girls were stuck there in that classroom.” .This satisfied myself  as I actually managed to present a story plot that made sense, however I then realised that the classroom scene where the two girls woke up after being collapse did provide abit of confusion a colleague then further stated that I “The story plot which in my honest opinion did seem very confusing at first where the two young girls woke up in the classroom however It did make sense to me as it was apart of the big twist” From this particular scene made me realise how from every twist there is abit of a confusion only for a small amount of time however in order to make that twist very successful is to make t try an present the unexpected the moment that will make sense for the audience.

Film poster

After producing my film poster, I have managed to receive feedback from my colleagues. The question that I have asked referred to the typography and graphical image of the poster. These questions become very useful since it allowed me to understand how I would be able to improve the typography of the film poster and most importantly how they would compare my film poster to well known films so I would be able to accomplish the same methods they used to promote and advertise their film. My first important question I had received was the rating that was given by the collegues. As my film poster have been viewed by 5 of my colleague I the wanted to know how effective it is to be used as an advertisement for my short film. So therefore my concerns was the type of rating they will give after viewing the film poster, which will justify if the poster will be able to encourage audiences to watch the film.

The graph presents the ratings that were given by 5 of the colleague. The highest is considered to be 10 where the lowest is given as 1.By viewing the result from the quantitative data received,7 out of 10 were given the most out of the 5 colleague. This is considered to be a very good score however my aim was to achieve a 9 or possibly a 10.However I needed to know what improvements can be developed in order to receive that scored, so therefore I have managed to ask specific questions that referred to the creativity of the poster, matching with the film product and typography Therefore the feedback that I had received from these questions became a suitable resource to develop improvements.

I was very concerned with the creativity of the poster. In which considers the terms of how it appeals to the audience which encourages them to watch the film also if the audience will recognise the poster as a thriller type of a film. One had stated , “The first thing that is most obviously noticeable is the large prefect badge that catches the eye as this takes up a large amount of the poster and the colour red against the grey stands out well. “.This feedback justifies of how the poster have managed to meet the demand of being eye Cathy win which every film poster must accomplish if they want to receive a large mass of audience watching their film. However according to being represented as a thriller type of a film one had stated that “The perfect badge, colour font with the red and white is fabulous however for being recognised as a thriller film almost perfect" i didn’t understand that 100% so maybe that could be changed or explained more. Maybe even add one more small detail such as a gun or some kind of picture to show danger with the prefect badge.”  This feedback justifies of how there can be more devices that should be included that will present a strong representation of the genre for example present a screenshot or include more thriller graphical content so that the audience will recognise the genre of the film, most importantly will attract the audience to watch the film. However as I have managed to use evident quotes, which justifies the review being given by big companies such as The Sun, Daily mirror and Filmmaker, this will provide a believable typography for the audience to believe it’s a amazing horror film to be watched.

Overall I was satisfied by receiving this positive feedback, which justified of how I have managed to present a film poster that is noticeable and managed to use the colour fonts efficiently which is something that is very eye catchy. From every film poster must always be eye Cathy, this is the purpose of attracting audiences to feel interested of watching the film and believe the expectations they will see by viewing the cinematography of the film. By learning from this feedback made me realise of how important it is to  present  poster that audiences will recognise the genre it belongs to, for example for a film poster to present a more horror type must always use a more dark and spooky image which justify it as a horror movie. By producing a film poster, it most important that a film poster matches with the actually product. This is because a film poster is there to advertise a film and to try and encourage audience to watch the film, if the film poster doesn’t match with the final film then it is less likely for a film to receive any audience or any acknowledgement from their own advertisement. Therefore I have managed to ask a question to an audience Do you think it matches with the final product of the film? Please justify. My response from the audience was "it shows what the film is about and matches well and it looks professional, however there could be a little more detail to what the film is like.” This response satisfied of how professional the film poster however I realised how it must include more detail about a film so therefore screen shots needs to be added this is because by viewing many film poster they always include a screen shot of a main character or a particular scene where the twist occurs, this will allow the audience to expect what they will watch and it’s a more better show an image that represents a situation that occurs in a film where the audience will be appealed and attracted to know the story plot of the film.

Film magazine review

After producing my film review page , I received feedback by asking specific questions regarding to the typography ,layout and structure of the review page. These questions allowed me to understand the improvements that are needed to be developed in order to meet the demand of presenting an effective response that every audience will acknowledge and become very interested of reading. My first important question I had received was the rating that was given by the collegues. As my film review page have been viewed by 5 of my colleague I the wanted to know how interesting it is to view their personal opinion. So therefore my first concerns were the type of rating they will give after viewing the film review page.

The graph presents the ratings that were given by 5 of the colleague. The highest is considered to be 10 where the lowest is given as 1.By viewing the result from the quantitative data received,7 out of 10 were given the most out of the 5 colleague. This is considered to be a very good score however my aim was to achieve a 9 or possibly a 10.However I needed to know what improvements can be developed in order to receive that scored, so therefore I have managed to ask specific questions that referred to the gimmick of the review page, Typography and structure. Therefore the feedback that I had received from these questions became a suitable resource to develop improvements.

I had to ask specific questions that were referred to the structure and most importantly the layout of the review page. This is because I had to be very certain if the layout of the review page suited the gimmick as a more thriller type, because of presenting the expressive words in red text.Futhermore I also wanted to be very certain if the typography of the film is very professional in the terms with English grammar and language. Considering if it is very easy to understand or easy to read. From many magazine their style of English must be very clear to read in order for the audience to literally understand their opinion they are expressing, if their style of English is not very clear then an audience would be very confused, leading to their share of personal opinion being not understood by many viewers.

Therefore a question that I have asked to a fellow colleague was “Is the English grammar/language very clear and easy to read? Please justify”. The response I have received was The English and grammar is easy to understand however there are a few places where certain words or descriptions could be changed or left out”. From receiving this response satisfied me as the typography of my review page is very clear and easy to understand. However from explaining how there are certain words that are needed to be “changed” or “ left out” I realised how by viewing the certain words from my review page ,some are considered to be repetitive and very basic such as “impressive” and “brilliant”. Therefore I have learnt that in a review page must always avoid repetitive words, which sometimes can show how unprofessional the magazine is, as well as how they cannot fully expand their positive response about the film.

Another problem that I have encounter was when my brother stated that “the red text used to present the strong impression needs to be cutted out” I have realised as by reading through the review page, the red text can come across as a distraction because of its bright colours that stands out. The particular device is positive with the terms of presenting the gimmick of the short film however there is a negative side where it can be a big distraction of reading the whole response. Overall I have learnt that I have to try and not use a device that distracts a viewing of reading the content and also I must try and avoid using devices that presents the layout abit more basic if I were to try and make it look more professional.

Conclusion

In conclusion by receiving feedback from my short film as well as my ancillary task allowed me to develop the improvements and overcoming the problems that needed to be adjusted. I have learnt how important it is to receive feedback in order to know if the product is successful enough to be viewed by every audience and most importantly how the product is advertised, by having a strong advertisement for your product will bring a positive end result where many audiences will be appealed to watch the film and most certainly the film will receive high reputation from that result.

A2 film Perfect prefect 11/11/12

Evaluation 2 18/12/12

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

I believe that I have met the objective of developing an effective combination of  my final product alongside with my ancillary task. I have realised that by producing a short film or any particular film it is very compulsory to advertise by producing a film poster. This is because a film poster is marketing device which helps to endorse a film to receive audiences. Posters occupy a space between art and advertising. They have a clear commercial purpose in which to promote an event or product however they also have artistic value which allows a film to receive acknowledgment from audiences such as People buy them and hang them on their walls. As I have managed to produce my film poster I have manage to exceed the objective of producing a creative film poster.By receiving several feedbacks of my film poster one had clarified that “The first thing that is most obviously noticeable is the large prefect badge that catches the eye as this takes up a large amount of the poster and the colour red against the grey stands out well. It definitely looks professional as the comments from big name companies shows and the design itself is simple but effective. It does match with the film as it shows the badge which identifies with a prefect and the red shows sinister intent.” It was very simple to produce my film poster. However it was considered to be very difficult when I had to visualise the typography alongside with its looks. Most importantly, I had to be very certain if the poster would appeal to the audience, encouraging them to watch the film. Therefore I believe I have met that objective which I was very pleased off, since I have managed to include evident quotes with star ratings that are reviewed by The sun, Daily Mirror and Film maker magazine. These are well-known companies that are known by many people, so therefore this will allow the film to receive more acknowledgment from many audiences, also with high given review ,will encourage them to watch the film.I was very satisfied with the filtering of the prefect badge, which manages to stand out very creative to present it more as a funky and thriller look of the poster. In my opinion, I believe there are improvements that need to be developed. Cast names, film production, distributors, more images still needs to be included and most importantly a border which every film poster uses for their structure. I am very satisfied of how it was a good attempt however according to the feedback I have received, are still more devices that needs to be included and in order to solve that problem I need to analyse many well-known film posters that were very successful of promoting their film product.

I have also realised that from every independent films also have been reviewed by many film magazine articles. As a film being reviewed is a beneficial element that receives credibility of the film production and also its features. A review section of a film is an important device that allows popular or well-known film magazine to share their personal opinion of the film which considered to clarify any positive or negative feedback of the film, By receiving positive feedbacks of the film allows the film to increase its popularity. However depending on how badly produced a film is receiving negative feedbacks from film magazine articles can decrease the chances of a film being watched by many viewers. Many reasons can clarify why a review section of a film is considered to be important.

  • Allows to increase a films popularity
  • Allow viewers to know what film the magazine article is recommending them to watch
  • Allows a the production of the film to understand the improvements that needs be developed
  • Most importantly allows a film to be fully expanded by many viewers which allows them to be viewed with a large mass of audiences.

As I have managed to understand the concept of reviewing a film. I believe that I have managed to exceed the objective of producing a well-professional and strong positive review of my film. By analysing independent film magazines such as filmmaker and Gorilla film I have understood the typography that needs to be included to present a strong review of a film. To clarify this evidence I have received feedback from a fellow colleague explaining how they believe my film review page is successful. "The layout is very professional and is set out well. The bold block letters in red highlight the descriptive words that best describe the film. The red once again symbolises the sinister atmosphere of the film. The English and grammar is easy to understand however there are a few places where certain words or descriptions could be changed or left out. The pictures as well make it look more professional and attracted me to wanting to view the review”.
I was very pleased with the end result of my film page, I was very satisfied the way the red text empathises the strong impression of the review. Furthermore more how they relate to a more horrified content with words such as “thrilling”,” shocking” and “executed" ect. However I was even more pleased of structuring the layout of the review page, since it was very complicated and difficult to accomplish. According to the feedback I have received, I need to improve the structure of the magazine which seems very basic. Most importantly I need to try and include more devices that are always included in a typical review page of a magazine such as a small content page on the bottom right and also include more screen shots of suitable scenes that is very admirable and interesting. To try and simplify the complexity of reading the text, the red text doesn’t consider being very suitable for that purpose since it leads to a big distraction while reading the text. Overall I believe it was a very good attempt to begin with however there a few changes which needs to be adjusted and I need to try and use a more professional layout of the page.

Evaluation 1 17/12/12

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

My short film, film poster and film review page, do use and challenge the forms and conventions of real media products that inspired me to follow the same similar concept. Since our genre of our film belongs to a school thriller film, researching films such as Bang Bang Your Dead (2002) seemed as a suitable concept that I have followed since it belong to a school massacre type of a film. By technically analysing the feature of the film, I have realised that the film was considered to be a, low budget film; I have followed that specific conventions since my film production didn’t consist of investing any money for hiring actors, costumes, location and camera with equipment. Furthermore I have managed to follow the same structure and elements of independent films such as:

  • Producing an exciting & original idea for example managing to produce a basic story where a group of young teenagers are caught drinking and two of them end up in a classroom after they collapse. In comparison I have managed to follow the same conventions of developing a simple plot from Bang Bang your dead (2002). There plot was about a young teenager who constantly gets bullied at school.
  • A Strong script, in which I have managed to present a scenario case that can happen in any particular situation such as drinking constantly, can lead to a death situation. In comparison to Bang Bang your dead (2002) they have managed to present a situation where a victim seeks for revenge as by being bullied constantly, which further leads to victim of being a killer.
  • Good acting in which I have managed to hire drama students that are sensible and mature. It was very compulsory to hire well performed actors instead of anyone who can’t even act because there will be less errors of any mistakes of dialogue or acting.
  • Length of film, where I have managed to produce a 5 minute film.
  • Strong beginning
  • Avoid repetition & punchline twist for example for my short film there wasn’t any repetition accept for a scene where the drinking scene was shown at the classroom however this was used for the big twist where the scene presents them being shot. So therefore I have used only one repetitive scene but it was only specifically used for the punchline twist of the story.

Bang Bang your dead (2002) Trailer

Combining the forms of conventions from a low budget film alongside with an independent film allowed me to receive a creative end result.

For my film poster I have managed to research several independent films and analysed how they advertise their final product. Short films such as ‘Ink’ and ‘Primer’ included devices such as evident quotes, cast, film production and most importantly the creativity of their graphical image that presents something that the audience will recognise the genre of their film. However I then went against the forms and conventions of these independent film posters by using the same similar concept of a well-known film poster ‘Detention’ (2011). As my film were consumed to be a school massacre type of a film ,this film were considered to be a very useful resource to develop my own film poster. This is because the layout of the film poster seemed very professional and very creative in a more school horror type of a look and also the way they manage to include every devices that every film poster includes such as cast, production and distributor companies, date release and most importantly how they manage to structure the layout of the poster in a creative format. Since the film were considered to be very well-known, i have realised how they had to spend money on developing these posters. This explains how I have managed to went against the forms and conventions where I have managed to produce my own film poster without investing any money.

I believe that the similarities of the posters from my film compared to ‘Detention’ (2011) is, we both use an image that represents either a motivation of a character or a symbol which audiences will acknowledge the film for example, the prefect badge is a symbol which presents the motivation of the prefect to seek power and dominance. Also for ‘Detention’ (2011) the bloody drawn skeleton is a symbol of the evil character when they hunt their victims. I have used the similar red and white colour font as ‘Detention’ (2011).However the red is presented more as a bloody look of the poster which clarifies the film to be represented as a horror film. In comparison with my film poster, I have used a brighter red and white font of the poster. With the prefect badge it is coated with light red but abit splashed around the surface of the item to present it more as a thriller look rather than a bloody look where as ‘Detention’ (2011) uses a more red splashy look around the whole background. Overall I have managed to use the same forms and conventions by using an image which symbolises the main motivation of a character within the poster. However I went against the forms and conventions from ‘Detention’ (2011) by presenting it more as thriller look rather than a more bloody horror look.

Before developing my film review page, I have managed to research many independent film magazine articles that includes a section where they review films. Film Magazines such as Filmmaker and Gorilla films were the two that I have analysed.

Both magazines specialises of reviewing independent films that belong in a category of horror/thriller type films. Out of the two, Filmmaker was considered to be an inspire for myself to actually try and develop the same concept of reviewing my own film in a similar format. As I have analysed a review page of a film named Suspect, I have managed to  received a general idea of how they structure their layout in a creative format of positioning their screenshots of the films, evident quotes and expressive words for example ‘gripping’, shocking’ and ‘tense thriller’. These words indicates a more spooky and horrified feeling, which then presents how its more believable that this film can be referred to a recommendable horror/thriller film to be watched. By analysing these words saved me a general idea of how I must use expressive words within my review page. Therefore I have included words such as “Thrilling” ,”shocking” and “executed” to provide a horror/thriller presentation to the audience , especially by presenting these words with red bold text. I also analysed how they use technical devices such as the film star ratings, most importantly, how their style of English language and grammar is executed perfectly which is very easy to understand their personal opinion. I have managed to use the same style form of English which doesn’t consider to be too formal but very simple to understand. I also manage to become very bias of being very positive of reviewing the film, similar to Filmmaker which I believe allows the film to be more acknowledge and rewarded for their creativity. Most importantly, structuring the same layout of the review page for example producing it in a horizontal format where it allows me to easily include the print screen shot of the scenes. Overall By viewing how filmmaker accomplishes of including their expressive words that empathises their strong impression of the film, I have managed to further expand the typography of the review page such as becoming more bias of being positive, also highlighting every expressive words in red.

In conclusion by understanding how I have managed to follow the forms and conventions to real media products I have realised that There are no hard and fast rules as to what makes a good short film,; as with features, different audiences love different films and an award-winner in one viewer's eyes will be a dull cliché in another’s. Obviously there is an element of creativity that must be used for producing short films, film posters and also film review page which can at least boost p a films reputation.

Soundtracks used 29/11/12

During the editing process of my A2 media film, I have managed to receive soundtracks that I have selected from a website called London grid for learning in which they provide free copy write music. The reason why free copy write music is compulsory to use is because ,it will save us from being sued of using music without receiving permission from their artist or music distributors and most importantly its free.

Since our story is considered to be a school teenage school thriller short film, I have managed allocate specific soundtracks that belongs to a more urban and thriller feeling.

Here are the selected soundtracks that I have chosen, which belong to a more urban look of a film. I have chosen these soundtracks because they suited the cinematography of the drinking scene and also how the prefect was approaching the group of girls.

Finally here are the selected soundtracks that I have chosen which is suited for the big twist in the classroom scene. This is referred to a thriller/horror music category.

Film product and ancillary task feedback 30/11/12

After producing the final product alongside with the ancillary task, I decided that receiving feedback from several audiences was necessary. This is because I have to consider to make any changes as possible and to understand any improvements that I will try and overcome if I had the chance to repeat this project again.

Therefore the best solution I had to receive feedback from audiences was to organise a face to face interview and also managed to send my ancillary task alongside with eh final product on hotmail to receive the feedback.

Feedback (Interview) – Minhaz Uddin

For the first feedback I have managed to interview a friend of mine named Minhaz Uddin in which he volunteered to provide a feedback of my final product aswell as the ancillary task.

Film

Me: What are your thoughts about the film?

Minhaz: By first viewing the film I was very amazed and attracted with the opening sequence. The music and the editing of the opening sequence was marvellous and I liked the way the CCTV camera was being blurred as the music makes a deep drum noise which I thought was very systematic and creative. The story plot was just simply magnificent, its something that is basic like showing a group of girls drinking and bunking of school however it manages to add in a more advanced sequence to the plot where two of the group of girls realises they are dead at the end which is a great way to present a film.

Me: What did you think of the camera shots/angles?

Minhaz: Camera shots are very smoothed and delicate, whoever was holding the camera they should receive a massive credit. I really liked the way the camera shots of one of the girls showing their hands that were covered with blood which actually freaked me out, overall the other camera shots was executed very accurately.

Me: What do you think about the cinematography of the film?

Minhaz: As explained before, the editing of the CCTV at the opening sequence seemed very creative and most importantly the cinematography of the scene where the two girls found out they were shot was superb.

Me: Do you understand the main plot of the story? Please explain what you think was creative of the plot?

Minhaz: As explained before the story plot is easy to understand alongside with the characters motivation such as the prefect which he seeks to have power and respect but most importantly dominance over his victims. However in the middle of the film it was confusing where one of the girls ended up in a classroom after collapsing from one scene but in the end it all made sense which I then realised the girls was murdered by the prefect.
Me: Is there any improvement that needs to be done? Please justify?

Minhaz: I believe the film is marvellous however I do believe that at the end I didn’t really see the names on the paper because of the brightness so therefore this can be a problem which needs to be solved.

Me: What ratings will you give out of 10? Please explain why?

Minhaz: In my honest opinion I would give it a 9.By first viewing the film it was simply amazing, the plot, the editing used and also the acting seemed very professional however the only reason why I have rated the film as a 9 is because it seemed very bright in some of the scenes such as the classroom the scene did seem very confusing overall the film was great and I really enjoyed it.

Film poster

Me: What first attracts you by viewing this poster? Please justify

Minhaz: The prefect badge which I thought was very creative, I liked the way it looks as though its been painted red and been splashed abit around the object, just presents a more funky look. I was very attracted to the ratings which make the film very believable to be watched.Futhermore the way the colour used matched perfectly such as the white and red colour used.

Me: Does it look professional and creative? Please justify

Minhaz: The layout of the prefect badge and also the position with the evident quotes ect seem very professional and also creative of how the release of the film alongside with the title is viewed on the badge.

Me: Do you think it matches with the final product of the film? Please justify

Minhaz: It does match with the final product as it includes the prefect badge and also how the rhetorical device is used to show how the film is represented with a motivation.

Me: Is there any improvements that needs to be done? Please justify

Minhaz: In my   honest opinion I believe that apart from the evident quotes and star ratings which are superb I believe that the film distributors and more cast and directors’ name should be included onto the poster which can at least endorse them to receive their credit and popularity.

Me: What ratings will you give out of 10? Please explain why

Minhaz: I would give it an 8 because the poster looks magnificent the way the white and red was used actually matched perfectly and also how you managed to promote the film by including evident quote from magazine article is a beneficial way to make the film very beleivble. However the poster does seem very ‘empty’ considering that there isn’t enough casts and staff members that supported the film that should be presented on the poster. Overall the poster seems very attractive and very creative but it needs to include people who supported the films production.

Film review page

Me: What is your first impression of the film review page?

Minhaz: My first impression was the page does stand out with the use of red which is used to bring out every strong impressive word.

Me: Does the layout and structure seem professional or suit the gimmick of the film? Please justify

Minhaz: In my opinion the layout is just basic and too typical of how most magazine would layout their review page however the way you used the colour red was a great solution to present the film as a more horror and thriller look because that’s the genre that the film belongs to and it would make sense to include something that stand out as thriller type of a film.

Me: Is the English grammar/language very clear and easy to read? Please justify

Minhaz: The English grammar and language is very understandable. Its very easy to read and to understand how amazing the film is which makes it very believable, in comparison to other film review magazines they sometimes used formal words that I don’t even understand, to me I believe that every magazine should just get straight to the point such as  making expressive words stand out that represents the films impression and to finalise it with an honest opinion.

Me :Is there any improvement that needs to be done? Please justify

Minhaz: Just to add in, by first viewing the page does seem very basic because of the layout in which on most magazine is lay out very advanced so therefore I believe an improvement that needs to be taken under consideration is to organise the layout and try and include things that most popular magazine includes.

Me: What ratings will you give out of 10? Please explain why?

Minhaz: I would certainly give it a 7 because it does seem very basic because of the layout which must be sorted out however on the positive side I liked the way the strong impressive words stand out to provide a strong impression of the film and also liked the way devices such as screenshots of films are included along side with details of the film such as age, date realease, directors, evident quotes and star ratings. Overall the film page is great in the terms of presenting a film that involves with thriller and horror however the layout of the page is the only consideration that needs to be sorted out.

Film feedback
This section will present the feedback I have received on the final film product. For this feedback I realised that it will more beneficial for myself to ask specific people who either produced a film or had previously studied Media. This will allow me to receive an understanding from those who had experience of filming and editing..
I have managed to receive two feedbacks of my film from:
  • Mohsin Mohammed – Mohsin is a great friend of mine who previously studied a-level media studies. I have managed to accomplish this method through hotmail
  • Faizal Ahmed – is a great friend of mine who also studied media and is currently stetting up his own business to for shooting and editing wedding films. I believe it was a great idea to receive feedback from him since he is very professional of taking camera shots/angles as well as editing them. I have managed to receive feedback from Faizal through hotmail.

Film poster
I also have managed to receive feedback on my film poster. However for this process I have managed to ask:

  • Ummad Ahmed – a brother of Faizal Ahmed who is currently studying graphic design so therefore he also has the knowledge of  developing a well structured and creative poster.

  • Mohsin Mohammed
