5 weird real stories

I have learnt the main concept of scriptwriting and its importance in order to produce an effective story to a targeted audience I then researched 5 wired and odd stories that actually happened in real life

Three pupils of the Evangelist Primary School in the northern Nigerian town of Maiduguri rushed into the headmistresses office in March 2000 and said that a fellow pupil had been transformed into a yam after accepting a sweet from a stranger. The headmistress found the root tuber and took it to the police station for safe-keeping. Following local radio reports, hundreds of people flocked to see the yam and police were hunting for the sweet-giver. What happened next failed to reach the media.

Essay

The main rules of producing a good story are always to have a brilliant plot or a pitch that explains the whole story together. Without this strong device the story wouldn’t become very interesting because a strong plot always links into other situations that can come across during a story that can create unexpected moments and also has affection to the audience that creates emotions for them. There are always many other important components which links into producing a good story.

A story always contains three sections which in the beginning always present the set up and equilibrium. This presents the relationship between the main character and the other people who inhabit their landscape of their world to be established. In simple terms This obviously presents the characteristics of the main character and how they are involved with the main story so for example the little red riding hood is the main character who comes across as an innocent girl lives in a  cottage with her parent and being sent to provide her gift to her grandmother.

The 2nd part of preplanning a story always consist a confrontation and disruption. This is where the main characters encounter an obstacle that keeps them from achieving their dramatic end. In simple terms this explains how the character may come across a lot of situation that creates a lot of systematic drama scenes. For example The slave saving the lion obviously comes across where the lion will not attack the slave therefore links into another drama scene where the master forgives the slaves and obviously doesn’t become slaughter if this was the case then it would of encountered where the slave wouldn’t become demolished by the lion if he would never of saved it therefore either any scenario cases that may occur between the lion and the man could create a disruption.

The last part of preplanning a story always contains a resolution where a new equilibrium is produced and presents how a new set up has comes across. In simple terms this explains that after the ending has comes across every characters are changed into their set up for example after the grandmother was eaten by the wolf her set up changes where she is more protective of locking her house and becoming safe, The little red riding hood now becomes protective over her grandmother and learns to never talk to strangers, The wolf learns to never come across the woodcutter and also the wood cutter learns to always destroy any wolf that tries to eat someone. Overall the planning strategy always present of how whenever a story is written it must be changed and the characters must develop that explains why every plot links into another situation.

Apart from preplanning the story into 3 section there are components in which is compulsory to use to produce an effective story. Logical causality is also a component where a story contains a series of interconnected event sthat always leads to a resolution and the reason why its important to include this to every story that are being produced is because usually story causes things to happen that are in order to make the actually story sense, if it doesn’t occur then the audience will be confused and the story would not make any sense at all. For example a story presents where a slave meets a lion and saves the lion and the master misses the slave as he escapes. This doesn’t make any sense to present why did the slave escape the master if he was so generous and very polite to him and also where does the freedom become an involvement where he meets the lion, therefore the story doesn’t make any sense and its also not very expandable. Overall a story always needs to include empathy which effects the audiences feeling about the characters for example the wolf could have feelings for the audience to actually get rid of him and know what’s going to happen to the wolf in the future. A story always needs tension in which creates a scenario for the audience to question ‘What’s going to happen next?’ Finally a story always contains an element of surprise that always present an interesting image of the story.

spiderman the movie

Spiderman the movie

Set up/equilibrium:

Peter parker is a young teenager who apparently discovers an amazing power by being bitten by a spider who lives with his uncle and aunty.

Mary Jane is a beautiful young girl who peter has a crush on since the 5th grade

There is also a man named Mr Osborne who discovers an evil power In which he commits crime and consider to be the villain

Action/plot

  1. Peter parker catches the school bus and sees a beautiful girl that seems attracted to-This is a plot for the story because if he didn’t find the girl attracted then he wouldn’t be interested of trying to impress her with his powers of putting himself into activities such as wrestling to have money to buy a car.
  2. the school visits the museum and peter parker and his friend Harry Osborne tours around the museum-If peter never visited the museum he would never of met Mary Jane or gotten close to her
  3. Peter parker sees the beautiful girl Mary Jane and asks her to take some pictures for his photography-If peter never asked Mary Jane or even talked to her then she would never of been interested or Harry would have had the opportunity
  4. a spider comes down and bites peter parker on their hand-Without the spider there would be no Spiderman
  5. Peter gets dropped off by his friend Harry and becomes very sleepy as his hand has a massive spot-He would of suffered on his own without the drop of Harry or he would of died
  6. peter wakes up the next morning in which he doesn’t need his glasses anymore and feels very strong-This is also a plot where peter can now defend himself to the bully
  7. Peter comes to school in which Mary Jane is surprised of peters new look without the glasses
  8. Peter becomes awkward as his spider sticks with everything and accidentally swings the plate of beans onto the bully flash-If he never used his web then he would never knew that he had the power of shooting spider webs and also he would never got himself into a fight and defeat the bully
  9. Peter gets into a fight with flash in which peter knocks him out-without knocking him out peter would never knew his strengths of his new power
  10. Peter runs away and tests his powers-Without testing his powers he would never accomplish anything that saves a life.

Other Short films watched

For developing my research in a-level media I have manage to watch several short films apart from the individual film I have watched named Tick tock. For this particular task each of my class mates introduced a short film that they have watched and presented them in our class in order to understand the concept of how to produce a creative short film.

The short films that I have watched were :

  • We were once a fairy tale
  • Love is sick
  • Inside
  • Tick tock

We were once a fairy tale

This was a short film In December of 2008, where Kanye West sent Spike Jonze his song "See You in My Nightmares from 808s and Heartbreaks. They'd been talking for quite awhile about working on a project together, and it was finally a good time for both of them. Spike wrote a story for the song, working off of the raw feeling of 808s and Heartbreak. He Suggested they do it as a short film, which would free them up creatively, and Kanye agreed. Spike, knowing Kanye's level of commitment, cast him as the lead characted -- a pathetic, sad drunk in a club. Spike wanted to get a raw, shameless performance, and Kanye went for it, wholeheartedly. They filmed it over the course of two days at a club in West Hollywood, with a very low budget and a skeleton crew. It became an experimental short film for them. Spike says, "Our idea was just to see if we could make a short film, pay for it ourselves, put it on iTunes, and see what happens.

In my opinion I thought the film was very effective the way they used the blur vision of kanye west to present the point of view as though we get a sloppy and slow feeling. The contrast and lighting set in the location suited the job since it was very dark and noisy which usually occurs in after night partys. The costume and the body language of kanye west presented the image as though he’s very big headed and drunk and of course the producers manage to accomplish their presentation in a professional way.

Love is sick

This short film presents the story of a young man who is seeking to find his love but come across many barriers in which he has to overcome in order to reach his goals, apparently he does come across with a bad ending for his love research.

In my opinion I thought the film:
  • Was very easy to follow through where at the beginning the film already jumps into conclusion ‘It couldn’t end like this’ however it also ended the same repetitive plot as the beginning which presents the film as a repetitive process
  • I found it very funny the way the man sees the small boy as Justin beiber
  • Very reliable of how they present that love can happen at first sight and leads to many situations
  • A great example of it presents that love is a desperate need
  • Amazing of how it presents an alternative that is repetitive from the beginning of the film ‘Could end like this’- goes straight from the beginning of the process

Inside short film
The short film is about a man who has a disability that can change their personalities into various ways from the communication of people. Therefore this film presents how a man is held up in a mental hospital and having his discussion with a women about his disability and confirms an agreement from over control.
