Film poster 18/11/12

By managing to research several film posters I have then prepared myself to first produce my film posters. The programme that I have used to produce my film poster is called adobe Photoshop. The reason why I have used Photoshop as a recommendable programme to produce my film poster is because its graphical content is very creative to use. It is also simple to use for beginners and also most of its advanced tools are very spectacular of structuring any form of context such as newspaper, posters, covers ect.

I have then realised that in order to understand or to become familiarise of being creative of producing posters I have decided to at least produce two film posters and indicate each stage of its production process.

1st poster

For producing my first poster I first manage to insert an image of a prefect badge in which I took a picture of a prefect badge and scanned it on my computer. Therefore by opening up Photoshop I have dragged the image onto the clipboard.

I then filter the image into many graphical fonts to present an image that seems very appealing. I then continued to select many fonts however I have managed to choose a font in which decorates the whole image with the use of red and white that seems very artistic and very thriller
Look.

As you can see the colour font manages to present the red as a bloodier look. Therefore I have managed to include the date realises of the short film on the badge and also include the ‘perfect’ name on the badge above the prefect in which of course indicates the name of the film

Afterwards, I have included the specific quote which actually allows the film to present to the audience as a recommendable film to be watched, such as ‘absolutely amazing’. Underneath the quote I have included 5 stars which indicates how the film is consider to be amazing and magnificent. In addition I have managed to include a specific extract from the mayor of London Boris Johnson presenting how he has watched the film to actually attempt to increase the films popularity. Finally I further included the production companies name on the top left corner and also include the age certificate in which I have manage to receive at Google images in which I have cropped out into a small shape on the bottom right corner.

After producing the first poster I then continued of producing my second poster of the film. As you can see I have still used the same programme in which I first inserted a photography that I have taken of a school uniform.
I then duplicated the image and filtered into a more sharpen look. I created a badge and manage to position it on the right spot where it presents a clear shot of where I can include the name of the film ‘perfect prefect’.
Finally I changed the colour font from yellow to white to make the poster seem very clear and easy to read also I have manage to include specific quotes which at least endorse the film poster alongside including the 5 stars underneath the quote to present the quality and the review of the time.Futhermore I have managed to include the age certificate of the film which is a 12A which is a compulsory need to present how audiences must be a certain age in order to watch the film.

Final result

Final decision

After producing two film posters, It is compulsory for me to only choose one main poster.Threrefore my decision of promoting a poster out of the two would be the first poster. This is because the first poster seems very professional in the terms of the colour font of red and white which both are used perfectly to present a more thriller and authentic look. Most importantly I have managed to include a persuasive technique by including a quote from an extract that provides a satisfied feedback of the film alongside including the 5 star rating and a rhetorical device.

The perfect prefect film review 10/11/12

Referring to my decision of what magazine I desire of publishing my film review to which was film maker. I have managed to produce my film review by using a specific programme named Adobe Photoshop.

The reason why Photoshop was a suitable programme to produce my film review page was because, its graphical content is very creative to use. It is also simple to use for beginners and also most of its advanced tools are very spectacular of structuring any form of context such as newspaper, posters, covers ect.

Perfect prefect Film review page

Following the conventions

After producing my film magazine review I am pleased with the end result as I have not only manage to follow the path of how film maker manages to endorse their film but managed to follow the same conventions. For example the way they express their positive language about the film in which relates to the genre of the film i.e "outstanding","Impressive","Tension".By analysing their horrific colour coding such as red and white, i manged to apply the same conventions onto my own review page. However I have manage to include more devices that I have learnt from researching other magazines such as total film, empire and gorilla films. Devices such as including a verdict which summarises the personal review of the film and also including many screenshots of the film to provide a general cinematography tease to the audience.

Ratings:

Age rate: 15

Release: December 2012

Plot: Perfect prefect is a short film in which presents a a group of young teenagers drinking alcohol as they bunk their own lesson. In which they then reach their limits as they have been caught by their prefect named Sam. Two girls from the group Kate and Olivia find themselves in a room in which a big twist comes across where they have realised that they have been shot by the prefect. It then ends when Sam strikes of the names on his list and strokes his badge of his appreciation of accomplishment.

Review:

I remember how us teenagers acted so immature back in secondary school, many teenagers use to misbehave, cause fights, get in argument with teacher and even get expelled on minor things. However in today’s society the way children misbehave are becoming very major and its evolving into a category where crime rates are increasing and they just misbehave constantly, it makes you wonder how happy you were that you never turn out to be an alcoholic at the age of 15!

Most importantly murder someone in such a young age. Perfect prefect accomplishes that method of presenting how teenagers act towards society, in my opinion it manages to nail to present an example to teenagers what drinking does to you and where it leads to in life.

The camera shots was very creative indeed, the CCTV alongside with the use of sound just present a feeling that something doesn’t feel right or someone is missing. The multiples of camera shot of the group of girls drinking was very impressive, the camera shot seemed very smooth and delicate alongside with the lighting. Most importantly the setting of course, being set somewhere behind the Astroturf is a realistic strategy of how most teenagers would do in real life. If I was a teenager and I wanted to bunk a lesson why not hide between the trees and share some fun into your self, why not stay in the toilets, or even why not try escaping.

The acting was very professional; the actor that seemed the best was Olivia. Her facial expression was marvellous I actually believed the situation she was in and the way she acted just seemed very realistic. Most actors in film just don’t know how to put themselves in the picture, in order to act just be yourself considering just put yourself in that characters shoe.

The mean evil Sam was just plain evil by having that amazing twist at the end was the key! That moment where Olivia and Kate sees the projector screen of them being shot adding into that freaky sound was just….oh my goodness. After viewing that scene and ending it with Sam stroking his badge just made me drop out of my seat and had butterflies in my stomach for weeks. For reviewing many films this had to be one of the freakiest endings ever and it’s something that most film should include, which of course an effective twist.

Overall by giving it a 5 star definitely deserved that place, the perfect prefect is just considered to be a amazing thriller short film and I hope that in the future there will be a sequel to the film.

5 star – Marvellous!!!!

Film magazine front cover and review research 30/10/12

Introduction

By almost completing our film project, it was compulsory for me to produce a film magazine by including a film review page. Before accomplishing these criteria I had to analyse several magazine front covers in order to get an general idea of how to produce a cover that will appeal audiences to actually navigate through the magazine. Furthermore, I then had to research several film review pages which I have done from online in which I had to annotate how they accomplished of explaining every feature of the film and how they present their responses and personal opinions about the film.

Film front cover

For producing a magazine I have looked at a sample magazine to have the general idea of how to make it very appealing to their audiences .

Empire

The first magazine I have analysed is called the empire. The empire is a film magazine in which specialises of presenting film reviews and previews of films belonging to the content of horror, adventure and action aspects.

(Empire is a British film magazine published monthly by Bauer Consumer Media. From the first issue in July 1989, the magazine was edited by Barry McIlheney and published by Emap)

I have mange to collect two empire magazine and annotated the creativity and graphical devices used on its front cover and how its used such a great tool that will appeal; many audiences world wide.

1st magazine – front cover

This is the first Empire magazine that I have collected and as you can se iu have identified the creativity used in the front cover.

(The issue was made in August 2008)

Overall by deciding in the future of what magazine article I will send my film review page to. I would prefer to send it to the Film maker magazine. This is because Film maker manages to promote  every short films into its higher standards and by using strong impressive words indicates how every films is their recommendable choice for viewers to watch. In comparison to gorilla films,by analyzing their review page it does in the positive side, seem very professional on how they view the films aspects and also how they manage to not at least include bias opinions, instead they are very certain and honest of every comment they include. However in my vision of viewing the gorilla magazine its just too formal and too much use of text. Not only i desire of using expressive words to promote a film review but i do desire of at-least including an evidence of the films best features such as including various of print screens of scenes. Also gorilla film magazine only review specific formal films in which film maker is known as being professional of analyzing thriller films. Therefore I believe that through the research of the two independent magazine ,Filmmaker is a recommendable choice to publish a film review.

Film poster analysis 27/10/12

As I have managed to develop a lot of research and even produced my final treatment of my film, I then realised how important it was to actually produce a film poster specifically for my own film. However in order to accomplish that method I had research and analyse different film posters that are similar to my film genre which is mostly based on school massacre and serial killing.

Bang Bang Your dead (2002)
Bang Bang You're Dead is a 2002 American drama film starring Tom Cavanagh and Ben Foster. The film is based on a true story about the school massacre incident that occurred in columbine high school at 1999.

 Film poster

As you can see presents the main poster of the film. By analysing the colours used, it uses a more dark and creepy look such as the colour black which is faded above the male figure to present a more evil look of the character. The word ‘Bang’ and ‘dead’ is presented with the use of red font that empathises a negative feeling of the feature as though it seems very depressing and horrific.

By analysing the poster, it presents harsh words appearing in front of the male figure such as ‘retard’ ,’weirdo’,’loser’,’freak’ etc,This provides a representation to how the film may be involved with someone either being bullied or being tortured continuously. It presents a more depressive mood as these words a more out of place considering it look as if its been written by a typical teenager with its font. Another technique used in the poster is a blurred vision of other teenagers surrounding aside to the male figure, in which may present how the male figure is loner and doesn’t seem as though he is very social able with others, it presents a more thriller type of a feel viewing the male figure as a stand out as others are being blurred away.

A techniques used in the film poster indicates the film ratings and specific quotes used from its review such as “a striking and compelling film” –by new York daily news this is used to provide an expression to the audience of its highly recommendable features being included in the film and also to use as a tool to show how their product has been promoted to a high standard of a recommendable choice to be purchased. Another technique alongside with the quotes are stars which yet as explained indicates as ratings to show how great the film is.

In my opinion I believe that the intended audience for this film poster is mostly directed to teenagers, in which we can clarify the atmosphere and setting in the school corridors and also the use of school students in the film may belong to a category of representing teenagers in their school education.

By viewing the film poster already clarifies how the film may be about a teenager who suffers from bullying at school. The use of harsh words appearing on front of the male figure walking down the corridors suggest he may be the one who is being bullied as well as his facial expression in which seems very evil and frustrated. Therefore this explains how the film may include a twist where the teenager may coma across of seeking revenge to his bullies.
Important information such as specific review quotes and rating stars is considered to be a great way to endorse a film. It manages to show to the audience how it is considered to be a recommendable film to watch, and it is a beneficial way to actually promote the film to reach its higher reputation. As the film has received a 5 star ,it will be able to receive a large mass of audience to watch the film and expect of what they have expected to see in the film.

Producing a poster is considered to be an important role of the marketing campaign. Without having a strong vision or strong profession of producing a film poster, it will consider to be less likely to receive a high reputation of large audiences or having any audiences to become appealed with the film. Evidence which shows the success of the film indicates how they have one many awards on its features:
  • Peabody award
  • Directors guild of America
  • Daytime
In my opinion I believe its an effective poster and it has managed to exceed its objective of presenting a tease of how the film will include an evil twist at the end or include something that can dramatically occur during the film progress. It has managed to present a special quote, also uses a variety of techniques that empathises its genre basis.

Readings such as the harsh words used doesn’t really harm anyone for the main purpose of film. They will realise why it was used because of how it will come across with a young teenager who was becoming bullied constantly.

Finally I believe that the poster is not very offensive in such as a way, if a film poster is considered to be offensive such as racism used then In my opinion it would be offensive however if it does use some sort of a stereotypically view on teenagers then it may become interest for others to actually watch the film and believe how this is happening in today’s society.

 Detention (2011)

Detention is a 2012 American comedy-horror film directed by Joseph Kahn, and co-written with Mark Palermo. This film is mostly based on a serial killer who is murdering every school student continually every day.

Film poster

By viewing the poster, the type of colours used is black being faded with red which of course is sued as a blood image of a skull. This of course presents a more horrifies and thriller type of a film and it is most likely to be considered as very bloody.

The symbols used in the poster are of course its name of the film. The name of the film ‘detention’ is very modified into a spooky image including a fade in of white presenting skull next to the word. Images of a printed out camera shot of teenagers are used aside of the poster which may indicate them as victim or characters being involved with the situation in film. Most importantly the whole background is a typically school paper with a pen and paper which of course indicates the environment and setting that the film may be based on a high school.

The words ‘cancel your future’ used as a blood text seems very horrifying and very freaky as a verbal message of the film. It empathises the motivation of the killer against its victims and presents the type of character of he/she is.

In my opinion I believe that the intended audience for this poster belongs to the category of teenagers. in which we can clarify the piece of paper and pencil used suggesting the type of equipment which is used in a typical school. In addition the word ‘future’ in the quote suggests how teenagers do have a future after education so therefore its does represent their motivation being cancelled by one person.

The institutional context of the movie poster indicates how it will mostly be based on a horrific event involving with teenagers who are still students in high school. With the uses of school equipment and blood text presents how the plot will be involved with a horror type of a film involving with teenagers. However for the movies production it presents the casts name on top alongside with the distributor on the bottom of the poster.

By viewing the developer names and cats suggest how it is an important role to include the cast names. For example in most film posters audiences are desirable to see a well known actor performing in the film. Also another important device to include is the distributors, if a well known distributor such as the Warner bros is mentioned on a film poster then of course fans of the film distributors are more likely to see the film.
The movie poster is distributed and shown across America, in which is a beneficial way to expand its reputation because America is considered to have the biggest movie industry in the world. Therefore for having to successful to present the film poster across America will receive a large mass of audiences willing to watch the film.

In my opinion I believe the poster is very effective in a way of presenting it as a horrifying and bloody content of the film. The use of blood writing and scary quotes such as ‘Cancel your future’ brings up a gory and a more thrilled type of a feel. The poster manages to exceed the objective by including the cast names alongside the companies distribution therefore it allows new distribution companies such as Samuel Goldwin films production to be promoted of what they have accomplished.

Overall I believe There can be a harm substances to the community where teenagers are being involved with such glorifying content so therefore it can lea to a harmful message to the community.

Principle (1987)

The Principal is a 1987 action film, starring James Belushi and Louis Gossett, Jr. It was written by Frank Deese and directed by Christopher Cain. It was filmed in Oakland, California and distributed by Pictures. The film is mostly based on a who has been promoted as a principle on a seriously crime rated school and comes across with a high level of conflict with student who consumes to become a leader and have the power of every student in school.

Film poster

By viewing the poster, the uses of dark colours represents the image as very poor and scruffy looking. However the use of white font on the name ‘the principle’ may suggest how he is an upside of the whole gimmick in which shows how he may be refer to a hero.

The poster presents two male figures in front of a broken window, in which we then see in the broken window the reflection of young teenagers in large masses of groups. This may indicate how the two male figures in which one holding a bad is referred as a victim or someone who is very defensive.
We can also view the graffiti used on the image which presents we may expect it to be a more urban type of setting and surrounding which can address to the audience to realise that the film may present scenes that are very criminal.
By judging on the images used on the poster suggest how violence and conflict may occur in the film and it would be something that would appeal to teenagers as well as adults because the image creates a stereotypical view on how adults are viewed as the victim where as the teenagers are viewed as the bullies.
The poster includes a short plot description above the images which suggests how they already summarised what will be included in the film features. Also the film poster does present the distributors and its casts.

Therefore as explained previously the reason this is considered to be an important role is because posters audiences are desirable to see a well known actor performing in the film. Also another important device to include is the distributors, if a well known distributor such as the Warner bros is mentioned on a film poster then of course fans of the film distributors are more likely to see the film.

Similar to detention this film was distributed across America which is yet again known to have the biggest film industry in the world and can support the film to become internationally distributed with its reputation.

Overall I believe the poster has exceeded its objective to present a movie based on a conflict that occurs in a school where teenagers are being mind corrupted against adults in society. The use of images showing a broken window can clearly show how they perform many harmful substances towards other people. However by presenting the two adult figure with one holding bat can may twist the plot around where adults can also be very violent and be stereotyped as defensive. In my opinion there isn’t really a harm message however the poster does clarify of how it stereotypes of the interaction between teenagers and adults.

Outside behind the tennis court between the tress

Classrooms shooting as CCTV

Room 45

Humanities block underneath staircases

  • Climate- if it rains then it could damage the cameras and equipment also actors wouldn’t perform on a rainy day being all wet

P.e class occurring while shooting-
  • this can affect our filming where the class are very noisy of course and if that happens then

  • Can interrupt the scene making it very difficult to shoot - If there is class being scheduled then it would be difficult to shoot as many students will glare at the screen

  • Class occurring in rooms - Yet again can interrupt the scene and could lead to a high risk of equipment being damaged by the students
  • There’s a teacher meeting or room being used and also a lot of objects in the way of shooting

  • Students appearing through the screen when they usually come down the stairs

  • Students going through the fire exit

  • We then have to change to our 2nd location which is in the humanities block
  • There will be only 4 lines of dialogue therefore for editing process, the audio must be very low or must be done before the p.e class started.

  • Have to try and ask permission for the teacher first and just shoot the camera for a long period so the students wouldn’t bother glaring at the camera

  • Try and post posters to inform students to take another route because of the shooting period.

  • Must shoot the scene in a different classroom
  • Must be shot after school

  • Shoot the scene where all students have lessons so there won’t be any students going through the corridors and interrupting the scenes.

  • Block the exit so the students can take another route - could lead to another risk becuase we are blocking the fire exit therefore putting a note will make them understand only for that particular shooting scene.
