Secondary research 2 - Adults to be blamed on teenage behaviour? 26/09/12

For this particular secondary research I have managed to navigate the guardian news article website, presenting people’s opinions  about how parents are the main responsibility of teenage drinking.

The video explains about how the guardian sponsored a project to support the parents of influencing young teenagers to actually reduce their drinking addiction. The video is basically referred to how their project has been successful, however I have managed to receive some interesting opinions that I have learnt about the cause of teenage drinking

I understand that parents are not the problem of this topic but they are a problem of why their children are brainwashed to alcohol drinking. When an adult drink, they drink normally because they are mature, rich and also more welled experienced. It comes to a term where some parents are not strict enough or they just don’t bother not allowing their children to experience drinking. Therefore it is the parents responsibility to reduce and influence teenage drinking and also look out for them, where they usually visit such as clubs or actually hang with specific people who actually drink themself.

 

I also wanted to research a documentary of young children explaining their feelings and experience from their parents having a drinking addiction. This will help to understand how I can present can visualise Sarah of becoming very emotional and feels abused about this particular topic.

Secondary research 1 - Young teenage drinking 25/09/12

As Sarah is basically a young teenager who has a drinking problem according to our treatment, I decided to research several statistics and facts about young teenage drinking in today’s society.

Overall by viewing these facts and figures it clearly refreshes my understanding of how teenagers are now becoming the biggest problem in today’s society. On the other hand, it also makes me think that young teenager are not only the main concern of why these rates are increasing significantly over the past years, the main concerns is how their parents are influencing and performing a good role to supervise their children into being a more sensible and performing mature commitment. Therefore my next research will present a documentary of how parents are basically the main issue of how teenagers are becoming what they are in today’s world.

Primary/Secondary research Introduction 24/09/12

From developing multiples of treatment ,in which further leads to progressing on our final treatment that me and karis decided, we believe that in order to present an accurate impression of our main character and her background story, it is compulsory for us to research these topics in which happens in today’s society. Her background story involves with her having drinking problems, parents being divorced and also her being a typical teenager who apparently has a limbo. Therefore we have to research these specific topics from primary research and also secondary research to develop our understanding of how we can present an accurate impression of our character. This will provide us the visualisation of how we can include effective facial expression of our character and also understand how we should present our character to make the audience expect realism and creative to watch.

As explaining the premise and the treatment of our story, I understand the research which needs to be accomplished.

The research in which I am going to undertake to develop my understanding is to:

·         Research statistics of young teenagers who drink

·         Research several opinions from news reports about parents being a main issue of teenage behaviour

·         Watch TV talk shows to visualise how teenagers act towards their parents

·         Interviewing specific people such as policemen and experienced drinkers

·         Watch documentary

·         The effects of teenagers when their parents are divorced

·         The effection of being divorced

·         Research the statistics of teenage rehab

·         Researching people who have an affection of limbo

·         Interview people that I know who used to be in a situation where their parents were separated.

 

Just to notify, the primary research would consider being time consuming as I have to try and meet people in order to interview their opinions and also their experience.

After producing my first moodboard i then realise that it was too much information and just dull to present therefore i have created a new moodboard.In which will only include images that relates to my vision of the films cinematography and also words which indicates the story treatment.Therefore instead of using Kizoa i used Prezi,which is a suitable site which i can present my creativity.

Practise Mood board 24/09/12

After concluding my final decision of my treatment, I further proceeded into making a mood board draft. Producing a draft will help me to develop ideas of how I would structure my cinematography of my short film therefore the mood board will only include and explain the background story of Sarah and also present how I visualise the look of where she is at present (a drunk teenage girl).

 I have used kizoa as a presentational device of my mood board draft. I have manage to use some pictures that I have taken and also used some pictures from the internet just to present a rough idea of what I want my scenes to look.

Treatment 3 - Life swap 23/09/12

The film opens with the main character a girl of about 14 named Sarah stumbling up the stairs and into her room drunk, with the sound of her mother shouting her dissaproval at her daughter's behaviour still echoing up the stairs. Sarah falls onto her bed and immediately passes out. As she come back around, she sees a girl around the same age as her sat at the end of her bed staring at her. Sarah, as expected, first begins screaming for help and when she realises no-one's coming, begins to question the girl (e.g. 'Who are you? How did you get in here?'), to which she is answered with silence. The girl then explains that Sarah is in fact still unconscious but is about to die of alcohol poisoning, and that what she is experiencing is limbo. The girl then offers Sarah a trade, she would be would not die of alcohol poisoning, but someone somewhere in the world would have never been born. Sarah deliberates for a while about the decision, but being a selfish person, eventually agrees to the deal, because she believes that she herself has great potential and would probably achieve more than this person anyway. The girl accepts and gets up to leave. Sarah asks the girl who the person would be, to which the girl replies 'You, of course.' Sarah then passes out again, at which point the viewer can assume she is in fact dead.

This idea is kind of inspired by a show that used to be on when I was a kid called Are You Afraid of the Dark, where there would be these short-films with a supernatural undertone and a cautionary tale behind it.

Treatment 2/3 - Behind close doors/ life swap feedback 24/09/12

After producing treatment 2 and 3 we then received more feedbacks from our colleagues. This will then further our instincts to understand what we need to change and also how would we be able to improve our fully discussed treatment into a final decision. From many attempts of treatments that me and my partner created ,we then wanted to receive a final decision that our colleagues believes what’s best for us.

 

Feedback of Treatment 2

 

Our colleague quoted that it was very ‘impressive’ from our previous treatment since its very simplistic to according to the shooting, where there is only 2 or 3 actors hired and only one location. However they mentioned that with my idea of using the drugs as a twist didn’t suit the idea of the whole story and also the words appearing, they did believe it is very creative but doesn’t match the idea of what we are trying to present. With the words appearing it wouldn’t make any sense since Sam doesn’t know or doesn’t have any affection with the words, so therefore it has to effect Sam noticing through his facial expression. It is also considered to be too big for a short film and can come across a lot of big issues e.g. shooting in the park can come across a risk of the weather ,corruption the equipment and camera ect.Overall our colleague mentioned that we should focus on the eating disorder twist idea instead of the drugs, because it creates an unexpected moment very controversial and something that doesn’t expand our short film very long.

 

From receiving the feedback I understand the concept of how a treatment is not about solving a problem but its solving the creativity of how a simple premise of a film should look, meaning that the cinematography is the key element of gaining high expectation of engaging the audience. Therefore I will try and attempt to produce a simple premise of a film in which can be used to present a marvellous creativity with an unexpected moment.

 

Feedback of treatment 3

 

The feedback that we received of this treatment considered to be the best out of the three. It is very simple to understand where a young girl has a drinking problem and starts to visualise a ghost. The location isn’t complex since it has to be done in a bedroom, however the cinematography of the film must be very effective even though it doesn’t require a lot of actors, scenes and props. The shooting of the film must be effective including the lighting, costumes and the editing .Overall it’s a more improved idea that me and karis came up with but we must focus on the main problems that may come across if we actually shoot the treatment of this story idea.

 

 

After producing multiples of treatment and gathering feedbacks, I and Karis then made our own decision to actually keep and to further proceed with treatment 3 because it is considered to be easy and interesting. With a young girl having to full pout to be drunk, any type of scenario case can happen and can be presented with such an improved cinematography. Therefore this will allow me to analyse how the cinematography will look and visualised as something creative and a more thriller look, that gathers a new idea from originality and it’s something new to expect a great experience of researching our clause of the treatment.
